Complete Descriptions of Our Various Printing Techniques
Sublimation Printing – Sublimation printing is a thermo-dye process that does not get in the way of the performance characteristics of the micro-poly fabrics. The end result is brilliant color reproductions of your graphic designs and logos on leading-edge technical fabrics and apparel that enhance your performance.
DTG (Direct To Garment) – DTG is a relatively new fabric printing method, and it’s pretty cool: it prints an image directly onto a 100% cotton or cotton/poly blend garment or fabric through what is essentially a modified version of a traditional inkjet printer. (Pretty cool, huh?) The ink is printed directly onto fabric, resulting in exceptional “hand” (that’s the industry term that basically means how a garment feels after the image has been printed). It also offers more flexibility than screen printing in terms of color variation and turn-around time, especially for smaller orders.
Screen Printing – Screen printing (or silk-screening) is a technique best suited for relatively flat surfaces. The basic process involves a fine mesh or screen tightly stretched around a rigid frame. The areas not to be printed on are masked out or covered up on the screen. Then, to create the print, the framed screen is positioned over the item to be printed and covered with a dollop of thick ink. Then a squeegee is used to press the ink through the screen. The masked area prevents ink from passing through, but the ink flows freely through the unmasked areas to imprint on the material. It basically works like a big paint stencil. Finally, we send the item through a heat-tunnel on a conveyor belt, which cures the ink, forcing it to dry quickly so that we can get the materials stacked, folded, packaged, and sent on their way. Properly done, this process will allow inks to remain on the printed material even under harsh conditions.
Screen printing can be a very cost effective method when handling larger orders. The setup expense is cost prohibitive when doing smaller runs.
Embroidery – You probably already know what embroidery is at its heart, but let us assure you: this is not your grandmother’s hand-stitched sampler. We employ large-scale machine embroidery, in which your design is actually stitched onto the garment using colored thread. The result is long-lasting, colorful, and beautiful, and really adds a touch of class to your garment.
